In my college years and early adulthood, I was an idealistic intellectual. Reading philosophy and sociology books for fun, I believed we could achieve a utopian society if only society leaned more toward libertarianism. Wrap Yourself in Plastic Wrap, Not Foil
I like to see what’s in my fridge and my freezer. See-through containers, plastic storage bags and plastic wrap are my favorites because once I put something in an opaque container, I can’t see it and I don’t think about it anymore. Sometimes I’ll freeze something in foil to prevent freezer burn, but in my stupider moments, I won’t label it. (more…)

I asked Jesus to save me when I was a teenager. Problem was, I then got into the wrong church, made some wrong choices and decided that because I hadn’t gotten my life with Christ right from the get-go, that God would be too disappointed in me to want anything to do with me. But God
Lately my heart has been weighed down by stories of incredible pain – stories of unthinkable suffering among people throughout Africa, of a family losing three loved ones in rapid succession while dealing with life-threatening health challenges, of a newly adopted baby given little hope of quality of life or even longterm survival, of a mother and toddler both facing cancer.

Though the Fig Tree Does Not Bud
Yesterday our church services featured about 25 cardboard testimonies. A cardboard testimony is exactly what it sounds like: People come forward with short testimonies written on cardboard. One side tells the struggle they faced; the flip side tells how God helped them overcome seemingly impossible odds.
