What’s Will Be Your New Year’s Revolution?

As you look back on 2012, ask yourself what set this year apart from, say, 2011 or 2010 or 1994, for that matter. And then ask yourself whether it really matters.
This past year brought a lot of changes in my life. One big change was a greater degree of professional success. But, honestly, that doesn’t matter. What does matter is how I use my influence for Christ. How do I make the most of every opportunity? How do I manage to be very deliberate in using my limited time for the most spiritual gain? That is what matters. That is all that matters.
Forget your New Year’s resolution. Instead, start a New Year’s Revolution. Let’s change the world for Christ one person at a time.
In the past – during 2012, for instance – maybe you did what most of us do: You tried to connect with people who are like you. But I suggest a different tact for 2013. Find people who aren’t like you, and realize those people really are like you because they, like you, desperately need a Savior – One who loves them as much as He loves you.
You know that person standing at the bus stop? You know, the one you just walked by on your daily walk? That person may not look like you or act like you or dress like you or live like you but is just like you nonetheless and, like you, needs someone to show him the love of Christ.
Same with that obnoxious person in front of you at the checkout. Perhaps instead of your scorn, what she needs is the prayers of a stranger.
Did you see that scary-looking person next to you at the red light? Has anyone ever prayed for his salvation? Has anyone ever offered him a genuine smile? Has he ever seen the face of Christ reflected in the face of another fallen human?
Be careful, then how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
– Ephesians 5:16
Dare to care about the seemingly unlovable. They are greatly loved by God, who loved them so much that He gave His life for their redemption.
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
– Romans 5:8
Show His love at every possible time and in every possible way, and watch us shake up this wicked world for Christ. Let’s make 2013 a year in which we make a real difference. I’m in. Are you?
