Where Is the Outrage?

Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. – Psalm 82:3

It has been difficult to process and keep up with the news on both domestic and foreign fronts over the past few months. Christians seem to have responded in one of two ways: by either defeatedly retreating or excitedly looking toward what they believe is Jesus’ imminent return.

A friend messaged me before the release of the Planned Parenthood videos – when we were simply dealing with terrorists and the Supreme Court – and basically asked, “Where’s the outrage?” And with the release of the videos, I find myself wondering the same thing.

Finally this week we have finally heard the full expression of the world’s outrage – but not about unconstitutional court decisions, a U.S. deal with a terrorist state or even the selling of baby body parts like pieces of meat. It’s about the killing of a popular lion.

Please understand I’m not advocating the killing of the lion. I am an ardent animal and nature lover, as anyone who has seen me in my natural habitat – surrounded by animals and nature – will testify. But I do think the outrage over the lion’s killing is disproportionate to the outrage we should be feeling about the Naziesque killings and mutilations of nearly 900 babies daily.

This is a difficult subject for many of us because the church has not been impervious to the pernicious influence of the abortion industry. Many within the church have been victimized by its deception, only to realize too late it was at the cost of a life.

Perhaps we are silent as a result of the guilt that we have either participated in the industry or we failed to speak up sooner. Perhaps we are silent because we have lost faith in our representative form of government and believe our pleas will fall on deaf ears.

Regardless, we have a biblical admonition to defend the weak, and who could be more weak among us than those whose existence is dependent upon the nurturing haven of their mothers’ wombs? How can we sit silently by while people are discussing “less crunchy” methods of inflicting death on unborn children so their parts can be sold for profit? Can a society devolve to a greater level of baseness?

I learned too late of the #WomenBetrayed rallies nationwide, but it’s not too late to let our voices be heard. By visiting the website, you can become equipped to do your part to prevent the further victimization of women and children at the hands of abortionists. You will also find a listing of representatives who have received funding from Planned Parenthood, along with their contact information. (You may want to throw in a request for a “no” vote against the Iran deal if you, like me, believe God will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse it.)

I also urge you sign a petition here or here requesting we defund Planned Parenthood, which receives more than $500 million a year and earns $100 million in profits annually as it fulfills its abortion quotas.

Our nation’s – and our world’s – primary battle is spiritual, not political (though I don’t consider moral battles political). If the church had been faithful in being the hands, feet and mouthpiece of God, we might never have found ourselves in the situation we face today. So we must advance our cause spiritually, but we must also speak up in defense of the most helpless among us.

Will our representatives respond to our outcry? I cannot tell you. But I do know this:

If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31

Go forth in God’s power, my friends. May the things that break His heart break ours. Let your voice be heard.

There should be outrage about murdering babies. Yet, it almost seems like the response is apathetic.
I love animals too, but emotional posts are all over about the lion.
There should be so much outrage about abortion that it is all that is posted on FB.
Letters sent. I posted a petition and copied and pasted part of your post. Hope you don’t mind. I am fiercely PROLIFE.
