Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.—Isaiah 41:10

Most of us would run from someone who admitted having voices in her head. But in reality, most of us do, just not to the kind that tell us to crazy things. In fact, the voices in our heads tell us not to do crazy things—crazy things like turning our lives upside-down to follow a calling from God.

So many of the women in my life, me included, constantly battle the voices that tell us, “You’re not good enough.” Sometimes these voices belong to people who have belittled or doubted us. Sometimes they arise from our own insecurities or as a result of previous failures. Often they find their root in the heart of our accuser, who longs to see us fall short of our potential in Christ.

But I’m here to tell you—and myself—that those voices have no power over us. We who trust in Christ alone are children of the Most High God. We have been reborn with His resurrection power in our veins. We are not limited by the improbable or the impossible. We are among the unconquerable. 

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?—Romans 8:31

If you have a God-given calling, make it your purpose to fulfill it. Remember, the King of all kings makes His home in your heart. Should we believe for a second that He who is in us is weaker than he who is in the world? You and I both know the answer to that one. Yet when we say we are unable to do what He has called us to do, we’re really saying He is unable to do it through us. That is a lie from the pit of hell.

We were created to live purposefully, victoriously, joyfully, boldly and courageously for the glory of the one true God who loves and delights in us. Sometimes the first step on the path to living that kind of life can be scary. It involves taking chances. It involves putting ourselves out there. It involves possible rejection. But those are all egocentric reasons to remain stagnant. 

If Queen Esther had listened to the fearful voices in her head, an entire people would have perished. Instead, she put her life on the line and her faith to the test, and Israel endures today.

Maybe you don’t know what your calling is. Start with what you do know. The Lord wires each one of us in a unique way to be His hands, His feet, His mouthpiece and His heart in a lost and dying world. How about finding a way to use your gifts and interests to point people toward Christ or serve His children? How about taking that first step in faith and trusting you will eventually find your calling, or it will find you?

After all, you are not your own; you were bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20). And the Lord believes with all His heart you are worth the investment.
