Jesus Is the Cure

But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.—Isaiah 53:5

All of us seem to be waiting impatiently for society to reach herd immunity, for the spike in COVID-19 cases to ease up, for a vaccine to be developed—anything that allows us to return to life as we knew it before the world came to a screeching halt in March. But neither herd immunity nor a vaccine can cure the greater ills that plague our sin-sick world. Only Jesus can.

The hatred, divisiveness, bitterness, self-centeredness and rebellion in our world are much more deadly than any pandemic. A pandemic can kill us once; sin allows us to experience the second death, which is eternal judgment.

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.—Revelation 21:8

Jesus died to save us from our sins and to usher us into His perfect eternity. His desire is that no one would perish—that no one would suffer eternal separation from Him. But He leaves the choice to us.

He is not only the cure for our eternal ills but also our temporal ones. Are you sick? He is Jehovah-Rapha, your Healer. Are you anxious, bitter or fearful? He is Jehovah Shalom, your Prince of Peace. Are you struggling financially? He is Jehovah Jireh, your Provider.

Are you in a relationship that is sputtering toward death? He is your source of reconciliation. Do you fear you lack the strength to face another day? He is your rock and refuge. Are you insecure? He is your security, now and forever. Are you alone? He is with you. Do you need an advocate? He is for you.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”—1 Corinthians 12:9

Jesus is enough for whatever challenges you face. He stands ready to help you at your greatest point of need. He is your ever-present help in your time of trouble; He is the wellspring of living water for which we all, deep down, truly thirst.

Whatever ails you, ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find. Jesus not only has the cure, He is the cure. I fear time is short, my friends, as the heavenly clock is ticking toward the day of God’s judgment. If your need is eternal, let today be the day of salvation.

“Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”—Revelation 22:12-13
