Jesus, I Was Wondering . . .

When Christians suffer, one of the first things you may hear them say is, “When I go to be with Jesus, I’ll ask Him why this had to happen.”  I’ll avoid such weighty philosophical musings so I don’t find myself being chastised the midst of a whirlwind, but I do have a questions of my own.

So, Jesus, I was wondering:

  • What does it truly feel like to love as You love?
  • What was it like being born as a helpless babe?
  • Did Your feet get wet when You walked on water?
  • What was your favorite food as a man?
  • Just how potent was wine in biblical times anyway?
  • Was Peter always crabby?
  • What does “selah” mean?
  • What were the original tunes of the Psalms?
  • Who’s right – the Armenians, the Calvinists or, perhaps, neither?
  • Did Paul and Barnabas ever make up?
  • How did Solomon cope with having so many wives?
  • Were Adam and Eve saved?
  • Why do I sneeze when I scratch certain parts of my head?
  • How do you feel someone looking at you?
  • Why do we need an appendix?
  • Why isn’t Iceland called Greenland and Greenland called Iceland?
  • Why does time pass faster when you get older?
  • And why does time pass more slowly when you’re waiting for something?
  • With all our technological advances, why on earth can’t someone invent a camera that doesn’t make you look 10 pounds fatter?

More likely, when I stand before Jesus, we’ll be too humbled and awestruck to speak. And perhaps all our questions will be moot anyway. For then shall we truly see and know and be.

“Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” – 1 Corinthians 13:12

“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” – 1 John 3:2

Someday our wandering and our wondering will be behind us. Until then, my friends, I leave you with one last question: What does the fox say?
